I'm a Genie in a bottle

Dumb song but interesting topic.

If you ever find a genie in a bottle, what would your 3 wishes be?

Mine would be:
• Photographic memory
• Ability to do math with out "carrying the one"
• A ski lodge in Montana with a bear proof perimeter

that girl's a work horse

plow

i've grown up with always having a job to do. my life as I know it has been filled with projects, tasks and assignments. I can't visit my own parents with out being ask to fix something when there. i've done every odd job know to man for friends and family - painted a motor-home roof, cleaned houses, design rooms, painted murals, design web pages, laid sod, tailored clothing, design bedding and pillows, fixed leaky pipes, remove wallpaper, laid tile and wood flooring, wedding planner, photographer for hire, installed faucets, set up many wireless networks in friends homes, personal shopper (furniture, clothing, & jewelry), hung off scaffolding cleaning very high windows, vcr repair and digital theater/stereo installation but i was best at running random errands for people. once while at a guy friends house in high school, his father paid me to change his windshield wiper blades because of his "lack of mechanical skills" That made me feel great - now I was hired help a guy's home that I had a crush on. why can't I just exist around other human beings with out someone finding job form me to do?

every girl dreams of being call a work horse, a large sweaty steed that works in the fields. it just makes you feel all special inside. but because I have a very positive outlook on life i took this noble title as a complement. i've been called determined, and stubborn before - but it's funny, cause i guess my worst fear is that someone thinks that I'm lazy. i don't sit well with lazy. i stick with the motto I received from a county song a while back, "I'd rather die trying".

Cojones, you've got'em but do you know how to use'em

who knows

Ok guys- I'm gonna make this short and sweet (cause that's how I like it). This goes out to all the single men that say you fear rejection and don't know how to ask a woman out. Or likewise drag out every conversation you have with her talking about everything under the sun but what you really want to say to her. Please stop the pleasantries and get on with it. Be honest, be straight forward and ask her out. I promise that the end result will not be devastating and could right possibly result in a positive earth shattering "yes". I know I'm asking a lot, this frustration does not come unwarranted. If I could lend you my confidence I would but some time the "balls" are literally in your court.

Good luck out there.

mental artwork

Painting

i want you to remember each moment of your life as if it were a painting. each breath, each movement, each person.
people are beautiful. i don't say that to sound like an Oprah's book club cult member, but more of an honest admission that i enjoy finding the pure still-life of every eye-opening day. through out this week i've played this game in my head of taking mental images of moments and actually imagining framing them and hanging them on my wall. what would my week look like, which moment would be the masterpiece? the investment piece that people travel and stand in line to see. would it be the simple portrait of my face as I step trough my front door each night after a long day? or of the hall way conversation i had with a friend at work? lunch on saturday in a hip downtown cafe? - these are all wonderful and they are now part of my collection of mental art work. but this weeks still-life is a small simple portrait of a conversation between a new friend, me sitting in a white leather chair and him leaning against the wall. intrigue in his eye and curiosity in mine.

that's this weeks masterpiece.

what's yours?

A letter to you, Grandmama

Dear Grandmama,
In the few days after your passing I have been reminded of all of the great memories I shared with you. You were such a wonderful Grandmother, one of strength, courage and kindness. Most of my memories stem from summer days at your and Grandaddy's house. The days filled with playtime, tomato sandwiches, sweet tea and Nabisco cookies and nights filled with porch stories, cartwheels , dirty little feet and lots of "watch me Grandmama" in your backyard. Walks around the yard and in the garden, corn, peas and blueberries. Roses were your favorite, but your knowledge of flowers was so great from all of your years of experience. I love to listen to you and mama talk flowers while we were walking the "grounds" of the Harris compound. I remember the Saturday morning breakfast and how different they were from Sunday mornings. We all had our spot at the table and Granddaddy and you had the big barrel glasses with handles and I got the the small jar juice glass. It was my job especially as I got older to wipe the table and get the milk out of the old small fridge off the back porch while you cooked. Watch-in the braves games at night with "microwave popcorn" (this was a big deal remember?) as a snack and then running to the back porch to see the fireworks display all the way from Six Flags - that was fun.

Camping and fish fry were always the best, home-made ice cream, pound cakes and trips in the motor home. In middle school we went out west, way out, to the Rockies and to Palo Duro canyon in Texas and if I remember correctly you were the only one who believed me and gave me sympathy when I was attacked by the swarm of horse fly while playing in the canyon riverbed. Your comfort was so maternal and strong with a hug and a pat everything with the world was right again.

Your memory and strategic way of remembering people and relations was amazing. So many times you would bring newspaper clippings and stories of people and places to me and give me a running from birth to death history of a certain person and how they tied in with the Harris family. So may time I took for granted the skill that you possessed. It truly was a talent. You cared for friends and family so deeply.

I loved to hear you giggle or chuckle, you would put you fist to your lips and laugh so that sometime it was hard to understand what you were trying to say because you were laughing so hard. But I hated to see you cry, you nose would turn pink and how sad it was to see you distressed and shed tears, mama has this quality too. You both could never hide when you had been crying - it was always written all over you face.

Oh how I admired you devotion and love for Granddaddy, you both were like peas and carrots- just like Jenny and Forrest. It was hard to imagine you alone after Granddad passed - it was like part of you had died. But your strength carried you forward like the lady-of-grace every one knew you as and you persevered. Who knew that you would be married almost 60 years, what a blessing your devotion was to my life.

Most of all I will remember how you loved me and how much you wanted to hear from me. Those yearnings to know how I was and the interest you had in my life made the biggest impression on me.
But the greatest gift you every gave me is my own mother. The daughter you raised became the mother I adore and for that I thank you.

Good bye for now - but not for too long. For I will see you again soon.
Love always
your youngest granddaughter.
Tiffany

run

K-here's the deal. About every few months I get these urges. I guess you could call them cravings. They seem to happen in the earliest part of my morning as I drive to work. Well last week, one came apon me and here's how it went down.

I was in my Jeep, running my days task through my head and arranging conversations that I need to have with people at work. I was inturuptted buy a voice while making a right on a road that I take every morning. It said to "turn left". And while waiting at a traffic light behind 20 cars (all chopping at the bit to race to the next light) I hear-"get on to the shoulder and pass all these people, don't wait, they're not going we're you're going." Now when I say I heard a voice, it's not like I heard an auditable voice in the car with me- there in the car it was quite. But in my mind they're were conflicting thoughts, rebelious-thoughts but my thoughts. My thought came on like I'm blacking out - except for the lossing concoucesness part and warmth had ran from the core of my being and turned into an aggressive heat all over. Breathing a little heavier I noticed that anxiety had taken over my body. Frustrated and caving in I thought "where am I going?"

Why had such a simple task of driviing to work turned into a war.

Go.
Run.
Don't look back, it's not there.
It's not important anymore.
I'm out there.
You just need to look.
You've got everything you need with you.
Just drive.

The weapons above pounded through me relentlessly.
Ignoring them I arived at work saftley but struggled throughout the day. I caught myself gazing out the window more times thatn usual. I was unussually distracted when people spoke to me. Was I asleep? No, I'm here but wishing I was somewhere else.

ahh that Foosball, it's the debel

It's superbowl sunday and I 'm trying to convince my self to get off my rear and go this party tonight. I was tempted by a friend at work to come hang with them this evening. All weekend I've ponder the thought of attending, however, I'm just not feeling it. I have no attention span for sports on television, there are billions of things I'd rather be doing. It's not even on my radar.
It's so hard for me to sit in a room of people who are all so into the game on TV and I'm staring at the architectual pitch of the ceiling above me. I've faked it for so long I finally stood up and said "I hate sports" in fact they suck.
I don't say that too often, but this topic falls into that catagory (that's the "it sucks" catagory mind you).
Anyway, I've played sports and when you're competative it's fun, but I don't have that competetive gene. But hey, I see it's place- I'm not stupid I'm glad everyone's different, I'm just not that person to have a conversation about sports with. I'd glaze over faster than a Krispy Kream.

mmm, mmm dounuts.

Thanks be to Thee

As I sit in my house this morning, it's quiet. No TV, no music, and not even a heavy thought fills my head- just the comforting sound of rain on my roof. I am feeling calm, joyous but most of all thankful. God's blessings fall all around me and warm my soul.
This being the week of thanks I feel the need to be specific and give thanks to God.
I am thankful for:
• God's soul saving grace and love
• My parents, grandparents, sisters, brothers and nieces
• My friends:
Sarah B., Sara.F, Sara C., Paige, Jennifer, Wendy, Becky, Bobbie, Brian, Sunny & Matthew, Kimberly, Shannon, Kara, Adam,
Octavia, and Brenda
• My talents
• My job
• Satchel
• My home
• My church
• My country
• Opportunities
• My health
• Laughter
• Seasons

THANK YOU GOD!
Amen

Getting Along

People are frustrating. Some are tiring. And one particularly, this week anyway, hi-maintenance.
I reflected on wether or not to write this experience into my blog, after all letting a person's unhappiness burden me was baffleing. However, I concluded that I had to deal with it better than I had this past week. I could not start the week off with the same mistakes as last. I had to let Christ's love come through me - instead of sinning and let my anger direct my thoughts and actions. As all of mankind searches for peace, I slowly figured out that my coworker needs rest. The peace that only Christ can give. And did I show her Christ's love this week? Nope, not until 3 days had gone by and the slow girl in the back went ohhhh - I get it now. So late in the day on Friday I placed my pride in Jesus' hand's and asked him to help me confront her with humbleness and mercy. And I was able to look her in the face and resolve the anger that I has felt toward her. Now this doesn't mean that when I approached her that she apologized and I was admonished of any fault, but what was done was bigger. I was able to see how I sinned and just how blind I am. As Monday morning grows near I have a peace and I am praying for skill and wisdom in the following days in my work relationship with this person. I pray that I can love her and give her comfort. I pray that Christ will take total control of both our hearts and that the insignificant things will fall away. As my thoughts turn to sleep I think about the God's grace and how it can dissolve frustration, give rest to the tired and in my case, humble my hi-maintenance pride.

Lets start with a Bang-s

I realize that this is a deep subject for my first blog. To choose the topic of hair styles as you enter the world as blogger shows just how shallow one can be. However, whether you have or don't have bangs is important.

Bangs say a lot about someone's face. Some women must have bangs, if you are one of those people you know what I mean. Others can go with out. I am one that has never really had bangs. I've had longer hair most of my life and there with the frumpy locks I have been a "tuck behind the ear kind of girl". I have had short hair once - but it was short and there were no clear bangs other than the short follicles that fell to the side of my face. It was a very bad hair year. There are very few images from that year that document my short hair and I do not own those images. I tend to block that time in my life when the curling iron became a permanent appendage.

Today and the days that proceeded have been better and more enjoyable as far as hair memories - no curling irons just, long wash and dry hair. And I will probably keep my long hair for at least a little while longer, I refuse to give into the working girl perky flipped up hair. I'm not there yet. But I might be ready for BANGS. My hair goal is to have hair similar to the actress named Sarah Rue on ABC's less than perfect. She flaming red hair that's long and pinned up on the sides with bangs. I'm always changing by hair color so I'm not hesitant about the color. I am afraid of a girls worst nightmare - unwanted forehead hair for at least a year. The long tedious process of growing bangs out. Pinning, clipping and spraying the short hair and trying to become once again the "tuck behind the ear kind of girl". But the fear of bangs is overcome by my unwavering need for change and just plain curiosity. I will sit in the salon chair this evening and "frame my face with hair" and hope that it will "bring out my eyes".

Lets hope for the best...after all it's just hair.
